Cheers to Mom--With a Blackberry Lemon Gin Fizz

Ever since my 21st birthday I've been dying to post a drink recipe.

So, I thought what better day to do that than Mother's Day!

Especially since all moms out there probably need a drink after raising children...

But really, they just deserve one.

That's my momma.  Isn't she the cutest?  I sure think so.

{I was going to crop out that beer that she's holding...but then I realized it was all the more appropriate.}

I'm going to save the sappy stuff for the card but...Cheers Mom!  This one's for you.  I desperately wish that I could be sharing this cocktail with you today in celebration of you being so wonderful.  (Especially since you're lounging by a pool in Mexico.)  You're the best.  Really.

And...Cheers to all of you other moms out there!  You guys make the world go round.

This is my taste of motherhood.  Thank goodness they are low maintenance.  Give them a beer and a N64 controller and they don't make a peep...unless you bring them food.  Then they giggle with excitement.

blackberry lemon gin fizz...

Makes: 2 cocktails   Prep Time: 5 minutes   Pour Time: 15 seconds   Total Time: 5 minutes 15 seconds (give or take...)

Ingredients:
6 ounces blackberries
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon sugar
ice
small bunch mint, finely chopped
2 tablespoons lemon juice
5 ounces gin
1/2 cup club soda

 Directions:

In a small pot, add the berries, sugar, and...

Water.

Place them on the stove over medium heat...

And start to mash them up as they get hot.

It should look something like this when all is said and done.  It will only take several minutes.

Remove the berries from the stove and push them through a strainer to get all of the juice out.  Put the small bowl of juice in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.

While the juice is cooling, fill your cocktail shaker with ice.

2 tablespoons of lemon juice.

And the finely chopped mint.

Lastly, add the gin and chilled raspberry juice.

Then....shake it furiously and distribute evenly between two glasses.

Fill the rest of the glass with soda water.

And then top it with whatever pretty things you can come up with.  A few blackberries and a mint sprig looked good to me.

Now it's time to take a sip...

And finally I request that you run and hug your momma.  She'll appreciate it.

Happy Mother's Day!

  1. Why is it called Raspberry gin fizz if it's made with Blackberries? It looks good, regardless.

    1. Well...I wish I could say that I was just testing everyone. If that were the case you would have won a prize. No doubt about it. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I'm just going to blame it on being a complete and utter doofus. Haha thank you so much for catching that ridiculous mistake!
